Michael Kelly Haynes, a beloved husband, father, grandpa and friend, was born on November 19, 1955, in Anderson, Indiana. He passed away peacefully on November 17, 2024, at the age of 68, after an extended battle with cancer. Michael was a proud graduate of Pendleton Heights High School, Class of 1974, where he established many of the friendships that would shape his life.
Throughout his life, Michael was known for his upbeat and chipper personality. He was a caring and friendly individual with a unique sense of humor, often expressed through his sarcastic wit. Michael’s generosity was unmatched; he was famously known for being the kind of person who would "give you the shirt off his back." This selflessness made him a mentor to many in the neighborhood, where his wisdom and guidance were always welcomed.
An avid enthusiast of outdoor activities, Michael found joy in fishing and sharing his love of sports with his granddaughters, teaching them various games and spending precious time together. He was also known for his willingness to lend a hand, frequently helping friends with tasks such as washing windows and taking on miscellaneous jobs, underscoring his commitment to the community.
Michael's legacy extends beyond his numerous hobbies and interests. He was also a proud organ donor, representing his belief in the value of life and the importance of helping others even in the most difficult times.
Michael is survived by his wife of 43 years Sandra (Smith) Haynes; sons Michael Arron Haynes (Amanda Owens) and James Richard Haynes; granddaughters Delanie Haynes, Halie Owens, Jazmyn Haynes, Trinity Haynes; siblings Sandra Pierce (Jeff), Cora Moreland (Randy), Denise Haynes, Michelle Haynes (Ryan), Neal Haynes (Heather); several nieces, nephews, and cousins; several close friends and coffee drinking buddies; step-parents Harold and Helen Vest; an sister-in-law Maria Love; loving dog Spot.
He is preceded in death by his parents Ivan Haynes and Wanda (Dowden) Vest; siblings Duane Haynes and Penny Vest-Stewart.
A visitation will be held on Saturday November 23, 2024, from 12-2pm with a funeral service beginning at 2pm at Legacy Cremation and Funeral Services - Anderson. Per Michaels request, all guests are asked to wear jeans and a flannel to keep his funeral simple just like he would want it.
He leaves behind a community enriched by his kindness and humor, and he will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.
