Onetta A. Bennett, 84, of Indianapolis passed away July 21, 2019. She was born November 23, 1934 in Marion, IN to
Ona E. and Dolly L. Bishop. Following her mother Dolly’s death, when she was an infant, Onetta was raised in Indianapolis by
her Uncle & Aunt, George K and Alma Price Bolen. Onetta graduated from Crispus Attucks Highs School in 1952.
Onetta married Homer E. “June” Sherlock Jr. in 1954, previous to meeting and marrying Professional baseball player and fellow co-worker
at Indiana Dept of Health James T. Bennett on July 26, 1975 whom proceeded her in death in 1991. Homer E. “June” Sherlock also proceeded
Onetta in death in 2017.
Onetta was employed by the State of Indiana, Dept. of Health and Dept. of Environmental Mgmt. until she retired in 1996 after 35 years
of service. Onetta was and active Bowling league Participant, loved swimming, and enjoyed participation in other sports. Onetta was an
accomplished concert pianist. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and actively participated in teaching Religious Education to children
and adults.
Onetta is survived by her daughter Elizabeth “Cissi” A. Sherlock, two grandchildren: Thaddeus “Tad” A. Sherlock and Lia L. Banks and
two Step-children: Michael Bennett and Michelle Bennett of Indianapolis.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a. m Monday, July 29, 2019, at St. Joseph Catholic Church 1404 Mickley Street, Indianapolis, IN.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Alzheimer’s Association.
