Patrick James Devine

Patrick James Devine of Indianapolis Age 89, passed away on November 16, 2019. He was born in Indianapolis, IN on February 1, 1930 to the late John and Margaret (Maley) Devine.

Patrick graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in 1949. He proudly served in the US Army during the Korean War. When he got back, he married his fiancé, Maria Mendez on June 6, 1953. Patrick was a plumber for many years working for the UA Local 440 Plumbers and Steamfitters, retiring in 1992. He was also the football coach at St. Lawrence Catholic School for 40 years, retiring in 1996. The school honored him by naming the field after him.

Patrick was a member of Knights of Columbus – St. Joseph, where he was known for his chicken cooking abilities, St. Lawrence Catholic Church, UA Local 440 Plumbers and Steamfitters, VFW Post 261, and American Legion Post 495.

Patrick is survived by his wife of 66 years, Maria Devine. Maria and Patrick did not have any children, but they lovingly help raise numerous nieces and nephews, 22 to be exact, along with their children. And let’s not forget all of the children that Patrick coached on the field, too numerous to count.

Patrick is preceded in death by his parents, mentioned above, along with his brothers, Bernard T. Devine and John “Jack” Francis Devine.

Visitation will be from 4pm to 8pm, with a Rosary at 7pm, on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at Legacy Cremation & Funeral Services, 5215 N. Shadeland Avenue, Indianapolis. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11am on Wednesday, November 20, 2019 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 4650 N. Shadeland Avenue, with a visitation starting at 10am at the church prior to mass. Burial to follow at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, Indianapolis, IN.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Lawrence – Sports Committee.
