Richard Ramey

Richard Ramey, 56, of Lawrence, IN, passed away in his home on Thursday, November 12th after a long battle with cancer.

Richard was born to Alex Ramey (Ashland, KY) and the late Marie Wilda on September 30th, 1964 in LaPorte, IN.

On July 7th, 1985 he married the love of his life, Bonnie, and became the dad he didn’t have to be to three children, Sonia, Vonnie, and William. After 24 years with his beloved wife, she preceded him in death on December 7, 2009. Richard was also predeceased by his loving mother, Marie, on January 31st, 2001.

He is survived by his father Alex (Phyllis); his 20 year old fox terrier and best friend, Peanut; his brothers: Alec Ramey (Penny, of Michigan City, IN), Michael Ramey (Rose, of South Bend, IN), Matt Ramey (Vickie, of Ashland, KY) & his sister, Mary Eggleston (Aaron, of Lawrence, IN) as well as his step children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Richard worked in home repair and roofing. He was a problem solver and took pride in the work he put forth. Some hobbies he enjoyed extended from fishing, camping, & lighthouses to playing cards and just spending time with family. He always made a point to help others when possible and was a genuinely generous and selfless person to those who were blessed to know him.

Richard’s wish was to be cremated and his ashes reunited with lost loved ones to rest atop Mt. Spurlock near Prestonsburg, Kentucky at a family cemetery. At this time the family will not be having a service but are looking forward to hosting a celebration of life in his honor this Spring.
