Ricky Johnson, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend passed away peacefully on August 15, 2024, at the age of 66 in his hometown of Anderson, Indiana. Born on February 4, 1958, in Anderson, Ricky was a cherished member of the community and was known for his kind heart and infectious spirit.
Throughout his life, Ricky embodied the essence of compassion and warmth. He had a natural ability to make friends with anyone he encountered, never knowing a stranger. His great sense of humor and talent for storytelling always brought a smile to the faces of those around him. Ricky was a hard worker who dedicated himself to any task he undertook, with a particular passion for yard work and the beauty of the outdoors. Walking in the woods and enjoying the sunshine on the beach were among his favorite pastimes, and he seized every opportunity to enjoy life to its fullest.
Ricky's family was his pride and joy. He was a loving father to his daughters, April Broadbent (and spouse Jay Broadbent) and Wendy Johnson, and doted on his six grandchildren: Aaron Broadbent, Tallon DeRossett, Mackenzie Steffen (and her spouse Joseph), Phoenix DeRossett, Trace Broadbent, and Gabriel Broadbent. He was affectionately known as the "Best Papa EVER!" and took tremendous joy in spending time with his grandchildren.
Ricky was also a supportive brother to Chester Johnson, Paul Johnson (and his spouse Kathy), Jerry Johnson (and his spouse Lori), Leota Shuck (and her spouse Jim), and Winnie Johnson (and her spouse Jeff), and he cherished his relationships with all of them, as well as with his numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his family ties, Ricky was preceded in death by his father Chester E. Johnson, mother Dorothy M. Johnson, sister Ora K. Johnson, and sister Merna R. Johnson (and brother-in-law Raymond Hood), along with his brother David Johnson. Their memories will forever hold a special place in the hearts of those who loved him.
Ricky was a man of strong faith and was proud to be a member of the Southside Community Church in Elwood during the last two years of his life. His life was a testament to his beliefs, showing love and positivity to everyone he knew.
As we remember Ricky Johnson, we celebrate a man of great character who found joy in family, friendship, and faith. His legacy of kindness, laughter, and love will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday September 7th at 1 PM at Southside Community Church in Elwood at 1815 S P Street, Elwood, IN 46036.
