Robert E. Langford, Sr., AKA “Bob”, “Bobby”, and “Mr. Wheels”, born 6/25/1941, has passed on to eternal life. He grew up in the Brightwood area and attended Tech High School. Bob was the founder/owner of Mr. Wheels of Indy in Fortville, Indiana, and resided in Greenfield, Indiana. He was well known for being mechanically inclined and mentoring his sons and their friends about automobiles.
He was an amazing, awesome, cherished, intelligent, ambitious, handsome, admired, proud, strong man… A leader. The rock. A sadden widower. He became a cook and a maid and saddened by the loss of his wife, Barbara Jo Tidd-Langford. He performed weddings, eulogies, and he baptized and saved lives. His only wishes was for two things at the end of this world: to live life to the fullest and the family unite to carry on his legacy of his invention thru Mr. Wheels of Indy.
He raised his children to be strong and independent and also stepped-in and cared for and raised several of his grandchildren. He is best known for inventing a machine that repairs aluminum rims, the first in the world. Indiana’s own news casters interviewed him about his business. As an auto-body repair man with his own business, having to provide for his family during the day, he would work on his invention at night. He knew there was a need to repair the auto rims that no one else could perform. Not only did he figure it out, but he perfected it, to get the rim back to zero circumference.
He is a widower to Barbara Jo Tidd-Langford. He leaves behind his children, Robert Langford Jr., Rusty (Rose) Langford, Randy Langford, and Shana (Robert) Langford-Ikerd; grandkids, Cheri (Josh) McCarty, Rachel Langford, Justin Ikerd, Shelby Langford, Randi Jo Langford; great grandchildren, Josh McCarty, Mya Langford, and McKynlee Langford; brothers, John (Linda) Langford, Greg (Liz) Langford, John Jr. (Cara) Langford, and Jason (Angie) Langford.
