Robert “Rob” Bruce Stewart, 71, of Indianapolis, IN. passed away on July 29, 2020. He was born on February 15, 1949 in Thorold, Ontario, Canada to the late Francis and Phyllis (Manning) Stewart. Rob attended Thorold High School in Thorold, Ontario, Canada. He attended the University of Toronto, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada where he received his B.S. in 1980, M.S. in 1983, and Ph.D. (Pharmacology) in 1988. Rob moved to Indiana in 1989 and was appointed as a Research Associate in the Department of Psychiatry. He was appointed in the Department of Psychology at IUPUI since 1995. He joined the department as a Research Scientist a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Psychology at IUPUI since 2010. where he became a member of the Psychobiology of Addictions research group (now Addiction Neuroscience). During that time, he pursued NIAAA-funded research, mentored many successful graduate students, and fostered national and international collaborations with other alcohol researchers. He was instrumental in helping the Psychobiology of Addictions program attain national prominence. In 2010 Rob was appointed Senior Lecturer in the Department of Psychology where he then went on to make important contributions to the undergraduate teaching missions of Psychology and Neuroscience. He was loved by his work colleagues and students alike who remember him not only for his contributions to research and teaching, but also for being a good friend who was warm-hearted, soft-spoken, and caring.
In Rob’s younger years, he was a member of a rock band, The Strays, playing the drums and he remained friends with his former bandmates.
Rob loved to read and listen to National Public Radio and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.
Rob is preceded in death by his parents, Francis W. Stewart and Phyllis (Manning) Stewart, both of Thorold, Ontario, Canada; brother James F. Stewart, St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada.
Rob is survived by his wife, Nancy E. (Badia) Elder, of Indianapolis; brother, Charles P. Stew-art, of Wiarton, Ontario, Canada; son, Christian M. Stewart, daughter-in-law, Allison G. Stew-art, both of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada; daughter, Victoria R. (Stewart) Hollingsworth; son-in-law, Paul L. Hollingsworth, and grandson, Feroner N. Hollingsworth, all of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada. Three step-children, Christopher D. Sellers, Kansas City, Kansas; Angela C. Sellers, Carmel, Indiana; Ashley A. Sellers, Carmel, Indiana; two step-grandchildren, Gwen Sellers; Nathan Sellers, both of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
Rob’s wishes were to be cremated and repatriated back to Canada.
