Robert S. Southers

Robert “Bob” Sherman Southers was called home on July 9 at the age of 75. He was born in Indianapolis on November 17, 1943 to Robert Compton and Evelyn Ann Southers.

He graduated from Lawrence High School in 1961 and served as a Marion County Sheriff from 1967 to 1993. After his time at the Sheriff’s Department, he served as the Director of Security for Eastgate Mall and then Mall Manager. Following the closing of the Mall, he was transferred to Cleveland, Ohio to serve again as Director of Mall Security. After he decided to move home, he rejoined the Sheriff Department as a Merit Deputy and served until an injury forced him to retire.

Bob was a loving father, grandfather and loyal friend to many. He lived his life in service to the community as well as his family. His smile and sense of humor will never be forgotten. Bob had a kind heart for all living things with a special fondness for his many retrievers. He also loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and fished the Military Bass, Redman Series, Bass Fishing League, and Hard Luck Bass Club along with other tournament circuits winning several throughout his life. His passion and joy were being on the water.

Bob is survived by his sisters Susie Wysock and Nancy Niccum, his sons Greg, Brad, and Adam, 7 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren and a large extended family.
