Born on January 4, 1954, in West Point, Mississippi, Rodney left an indelible mark on those who had the pleasure of knowing him and appreciating his passion for music.
A proud alumnus of Ben Davis High School, Rodney's talent and enthusiasm for music shone brightly during his school years, where he showcased his skills as a member of the Concert, Symphonic, Jazz, and Marching Bands. His abilities did not go unnoticed as he also took the opportunity to compose music for the Jazz band, nurturing a deep connection to his craft that would follow him throughout his life.
Rodney dedicated a significant part of his career as a filler operator at Crossroads Dairy Farms, a division of Kroger. However, his true calling resonated in his musical endeavors. A distinguished member of the Starlighters Big Band Orchestra, he proudly served as the orchestra’s director, leaving behind a legacy of captivating musical arrangements that delighted many. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to create and direct the Twilite Nites Dance Orchestra, a talented ensemble made up of nine musicians and a vocalist, specializing in ballroom dance music. This musical venture became a cherished component of his life and his son, Scott Hodnett, is set to take over the group, ensuring that his father's legacy continues.
Rodney was known not only for his musical talents but also for his warm-hearted nature. He was a wonderful husband to Sheila Hodnett, and the couple were blessed with 51 years together. Rodney was a devoted father to his and Sheila's son, Scott Hodnett. He shared an extraordinary bond with his brother, Greg Hodnett, contributing to the loving fabric of the family.
Those who had the privilege of knowing Rodney will remember him not only for his accomplishments in music but also for his unwavering care and affection for his family. His contributions to both the musical community and the lives of his loved ones leave a lasting impact. He will be profoundly missed by all who had the fortune to cross paths with such a remarkable soul.
The family is planning to have a Celebration of Rodney's life at a date to be announced, and the celebration will feature his Twilite Nites Dance Orchestra.
