Roger Lynn Boyce, 74, passed peacefully from this life on Tuesday afternoon, March 11 2025 at his home in Lawrence, Indiana surrounded by love. He bravely fought a 16-month battle with lung cancer- a battle he valiantly fought to the very end.
Born on January 31, 1951, (a birthday he shared with his youngest daughter Stacey), to the late John W Sr. and Erma M (Sanford) Boyce, Roger was the middle of three boys. He grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana, and attended Warren Central High School.
He was appointed to the Indianapolis Fire Department in 1979, following in his father's footsteps, and had an almost 30-year career. He spent most of his time at stations 1 and 30, but also worked in code enforcement, education, and was the deputy fire marshal for a time.
Roger was a very talented musician, playing the drums in multiple bands all his life. He was a loving husband, amazing Dad, great friend, and proud Papaw. Always the jokester, he could always put a smile on your face and always reminded you that he loved you.
In 1978, Roger married the late Marcia Lynn (Mueller) Boyce. They shared two daughters, Kelly and Stacey, and were happily married for 15 years before her tragic passing.
Roger was a Christian and an active member of both Northside Baptist and Vineyard Church in Indianapolis, where he served in the music ministry.
In 2022, Roger married Roni Ann (Moore) Boyce after re-connecting in 2021 after (54) years. They were married on the beach where they loved vacationing. He was Roni's first and last love.
He is survived by his wife Roni; his children Kelly (Kyle) Musick, Stacey (Randy) Chenault; his step-children Brian (Trish) Hutcherson, Kathey (Josh) Walston; his grandsons Jason Branscum Jr and Hunter Walston; his brothers James Boyce and John W Boyce Jr; and many other extended family members and friends, all of whom he loved dearly. Roger was preceeded in death by his parents and wife Marcia.
Visitation will be from 1-2 pm on Thursday, March 20th, with a service beginning at 2 pm at Northside Baptist Church 3021 E 71st St, Indianapolis, Indiana 46220. To be immediately followed by a memorial processional drive-by of IFD station 21.
