Ronald “Ron” Hopkins, 75, of Indianapolis, entered his Heavenly Home on September 22, 2019. Ron was born on February 15, 1944 in Washington, IN to the late Robert and Clara (Steinkamp) Hopkins. He was employed by the Indiana Credit Union League from 1977 until 1990. Around that time, he began a career as a self-employed real estate appraiser, which he held until retirement.
Ron knew how to have fun, and his favorite pastime was watching his beloved St. Louis Cardinals defeat their biggest rival, the Chicago Cubs. Oh, how he would crow! When the Cubs beat the Cardinals, however, he would remind anyone who would listen how many times the Cardinals won the World Series and that the Cubs hadn’t won one since 1908 (until 2016, that is).
In his younger days, a neighbor child might see him tinkering in the garage (where he spent a lot of time) and come over, telling him that he was having a problem with his bike. Ron would stop what he was doing and fix it. He always enjoyed helping a child out.
It was a source of joy to him when his wife would do something silly. For years afterwards, every time he had a captive audience, he would regale them with her goofy antics. Watching her face as he told on her was more fun that any joke could ever be!
He is survived by his wife, Glenda; 2 sons, Brent (Nicole) of Cicero, IN and Brad (Rebecca) of Colorado Springs, CO; brothers, Vic (Patty) of Washington, IN and Roger (Lorrie) of Overland Park, KS; as well as 5 beautiful grandchildren.
A memorial gathering will be from 1pm to 2pm on Thursday, September 26, 2019 at Indianapolis First Church of the Nazarene, 9401 E. 25th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46229, with a service starting immediately after. Arrangements provided by Legacy Cremation & Funeral Services – Lawrence.
