Ronald (Ron) Leon Wynegar

Ronald (Ron) Leon Wynegar, 67, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on June 11, 2018, after a heroic battle with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). He was born on May 3, 1951, at home in a log cabin outside of Mendota, Virginia, to Thomas Daniel Wynegar Senior and Marie Long Wynegar. Ron achieved a General Education Development (GED) certificate after attending John Battle High School in Bristol, Virginia. Ron attended classes, about a year and a half, majoring in computer programming at Clark College, Indianapolis, Indiana.

Ron proudly served his country in the United States Army as a Stock Control and Supply Specialist. His tours of duty included Vietnam, Germany, and Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indianapolis, Indiana. After his honorable discharge from the Army, he worked in the auto parts and supply industry, ultimately retiring from Speedway Auto Parts.

Ron became a member of Irvington Friends Meeting (Quakers) with his family. His leisure time was spent with family and friends. He enjoyed golf outings, fishing, penny-ante poker, music, amateur photography, auto racing, and passing along any knowledge he had.

Ron is survived by his wife of 45 years, Carolyn; children Angela (Michael) Bartley, Michael (Mary) Wynegar, Jennifer Wynegar, Melissa (Scott) Walton, six grandchildren, six great-children, brother Thomas Daniel Wynegar Junior, many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, mother-in-law, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, aunts and uncles.

A Celebration of Life gathering will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2019, 4 pm. located at 10350 Mendota Road, Abingdon, Virginia.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS), or any other charity of choice. Memorial contributions may be made to the Western Yearly Meeting in Plainfield, Indiana.
