Rose Orene (Evans) Shaw, 100, was welcomed into the kingdom of Heaven on January 2, 2018. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her in her last days and ultimately gave her peace.
Rose was born in West Terre Haute, Indiana on January 19, 1917. Rose is survived by her daughter, Loretta Shaw Leach, son Daniel R. Shaw; grandchildren Troy Leach, Tim Shaw, Crystal (Leach) Kennard, Casey Shaw, and Erin Shaw; great grandchildren Caleb Kennard, Amaya Kennard, Kamryn Perrin, and Cainan Knowles; Preceded in death by her mother, Tillie Huston Evans, father, John “Oscar” Evans, Sr., sisters, Pearl Evans Lucas, and Floy Alma Evans Lloyd and brothers, David Reid Evans, John “Jack” Oscar Evans, Jr. and Walter James Evans, Sr.
Rose graduated from ConCannon High School in Terre Haute, Indiana. After High School, she worked at St. Mary of the Woods in Terre Haute. She then met the love of her life, Malcolm N. Shaw; they eloped and married at Lawrence Methodist Church in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Their 1st child, Loretta “Lori” Rose was born on August 5, 1944. They bought their 1st home at 3553 E. Vermont St. in Indianapolis, IN. She lived there for over 50 years. They started attending Grace Methodist Church and joined there in 1953. Their 2nd child, Daniel “Dan” Richard was born March 23, 1948. She went to work at Eli Lilly’s temporarily in 1963 after the sudden death of Malcolm. She then got a permanent job at the U.S. Post Office and retired there when she was 65 years old in 1982.
Rose was loved by many and had a heart of gold. She was a devoted child of God, loved spending time with her family, crossword puzzles, reading books, anything to exercise and challenge her mind. She was a very strong and loving woman.
Family, friends, and others whose lives were touched by Rose are invited to the memorial service at Faith United Methodist Church located at 9031 E. 16th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46229 on Saturday, January 6th at 1:00pm with a reception to follow.
