Rothwell 'Rocky' Shiflett

March 5, 1935 — March 4, 2018

It is with great sadness that the family of Rothwell “Rocky” Shiflett announces his sudden passing on Sunday, March 4, 2018 at the age of 83 years. He was born on March 5, 1935 in Anderson, South Carolina, to Marion and Martha (Collins) Shiflett and later resided in Indianapolis, Indiana. Rocky was a master marble & terrazzo craftsman. He worked for many companies, including Santa Rosa. Rocky also served in the US Armed Forces during the Korean War.

Rocky enjoyed gardening and fishing. He won many fishing tournaments, and frequently visited Geist and Morris Reservoirs. Rocky also loved to tell stories and sing. One of his favorite stories to tell was about when he got to sing with Hank Williams in his younger years. The grandchildren remember how Rocky loved donuts, a variety of hamburgers, and scratching off his lottery tickets. But what everyone will remember Rocky by was how much he cared about people and animals. He would give anyone anything if they asked for it and not think a second thing about it. He loved making everyone laugh with his “tall tales”. And most of all, he loved his family and the time that they spent together, whether it be fishing at the lake or singing with the radio on Sunday drives in the country. Rocky will be deeply missed by all of his family and friends.
Rocky will be lovingly remembered by his wife and best friend of over 45 years, Judy and his children, Deborah Rose, Dallas, Cindy, and Diane. Rocky will also be deeply missed by his six surviving grandchildren, Jessica, Daniela, Madison, Chandler, Shelby, and Zachary Miles; six great-grandchildren; and his late grandson, Elijah Miles. He is survived by his three brothers David, John, and Filmore Shiflett.
The visitation in memory of Rocky will be held on Saturday, March 10, 2018 at 1:00p.m., at Highland Cemetery, 11171 Hoosier Road, Fishers, Indiana. The service will be held one hour after, at 2:00p.m. Burial to follow at Highland Cemetery. Arrangements provided by Legacy Cremation & Funeral Services – Lawrence.
