Russell “Tim” Harris, 79, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on June 20, 2024, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, IN. Tim was born in Covington, KY on May 10, 1945, to parents, Mr. & Mrs. Margaret (nee Hildebrand) and Russell L. Harris.
After graduating from the University of Cincinnati, Tim taught Math and French for a few years until finding his professional home in manufacturing management. After 35 years in the industry, including a role as President at Witt Industries, Tim retired in 2015.
Retirement also allowed him to enjoy his favorite things: spending time with family; being “Paps” to Jared, Erin, and Evan; making new friends; traveling to the Tampa area or Aruba; and eating his favorite foods whenever possible — blackened grouper and butter pecan ice cream.
A very thorough planner, Tim coordinated family birthday dinners months in advance, planned group travel or vacations, and spearheaded family trips to Bengals games to help keep his family close despite physical distance. He never knew a stranger, making friends everywhere he went, and was often considered the life of the party and an all-around great person. He will be missed by many.
Tim is survived by his daughter, Jill (Mark) Hirst; son, Tim (Tina) Harris; grandchildren, Jared (Becca) Harris, Erin Hirst, and Evan Hirst; siblings, Gerry Harris, Mike (Amy) Harris, and Kathy (John) Cox; along with many nieces, nephews, friends, and loved ones who will celebrate and cherish his memory. He was preceded in death by his parents, listed above; wife, Kathy (nee Burch) Harris; and daughter, Julie Harris.
To allow Tim to be celebrated by the many who knew him, Celebrations of Life will be held by family and friends (detailed below) in both regions he called home.
