Samuel D. Wade
Born in Montgomery Alabama in 1931
Died March 4, 2021 in Indianapolis, Indiana
Sam served in the United States Navy in Korea
Sam came to Indianapolis in the early 60s as a radio announcer. His golden voice could be heard on WATI and later at WXTZ. Upon leaving the field of broadcasting however Sam found his most rewarding achievement as the Transportation Supervisor at St. Vincent/New Hope. The vision was to enable disabled persons living in an institutional setting to reside in “group homes” out in town, allowing them to be part of the community. Sam’s job was to work out the logistics of getting them from the group home to doctor’s appointments, jobs, or just out shopping. St. Vincent-New Hope started with 4 group homes and today (now New Hope of Indiana) provides rides for individuals at 10 group homes across town. Sam loved his job. Both the people he worked with and the people he served. He retired from New Hope at the age of 87 when his wife, Jacquelyn, was diagnosed with cancer. Sam was also diagnosed with cancer that same year.
Sam was preceded in death by his wife Jacquelyn. He is survived by his two children: Teresa L. Choate and Wm. Clark Wade. His four grandchildren: Kenneth L. Choate, Jr., Jacob A. Choate, Miranda J. Huddleston and Wm. Jackson Wade. His great-grandchildren: Joseph S. Choate, Keith T. Choate, Michael J. Choate, and Kye Michael Huddleston.
We love you Dad and will miss you
