Samuel E Safford

November 17, 1967 — February 2, 2020

Anderson, IN

Sadly the world lost a little of its light as Samuel E. Safford passed from this life to the next February 2, 2020, as the result of failed heart surgery. Sam was born November 17, 1967 to Hal E. Safford and Sue (Hatfield) Safford.

Sam was a lifelong resident of Anderson and attended Park Manor School and Highland High School. He was a resident of a DSA group home on VanBuskirk Rd. and employed at Hopewell Center, Inc. for over 30 years. Sam was an active participant in the Special Olympics and enjoyed bowling on a league at Championship Lanes. Sam attended church at Middletown Church of the Nazarene.

Sam was a kind and gentle soul who cared deeply for his family and friends. He enjoyed holidays and celebrations, especially those with decorations, singing, music, and dancing. Sam liked watching television and his extensive DVD collection, playing basketball, going to the movies. He especially loved spending holidays and weekend shopping trips with his sister Angela. Sam truly appreciated simple pleasures such as a Ricker’s pop, a bag of goodies for the week to come, new pair of shoes, and a nice dinner with dessert.

Sam is preceded in death by both his parents; he is survived by his sister and guardian, Angela R. Safford and his brother, John F. Safford, sister-in-law, Kelly, and nephew Dane. He will be missed his coworkers and the staff of Hopewell, the residents of his group home, and especially by caregivers Opal Gift and Michele Redding. Sam was a devoted son, brother, and friend; hopefully his loving kindness appreciation of life, and gentle spirit will live on in the people who knew him. Memorial contributions can be made to the Madison County Special Olympics.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, February 7, 2020 at Legacy Cremation and Funeral Services, 504 W. 9th Street, Anderson, IN 46016.
