Sandra Baxter VanOrshoven, 76, of Indianapolis, passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2019. She was born in Norfolk, Virginia in 1943 to Charles and Eunice (Styron) Baxter, grew up in the area and attended Ferrum College.
Before relocating to Indiana, Sandy worked as the first female engineering draftsman at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, beginning her lifelong career in the architecture field.
Sandy loved art, cooking, and was always there to help others. In recent years, she loved going to the park with her granddaughter. Sandy was beloved by her family and friends, and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her son, Paul VanOrshoven (Amy); granddaughter, Leeann; brother, Charles Baxter (Margaret) of Asheville, NC; sister, Sherry Anderson (Brad) of Indianapolis, IN; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be at 3pm on Friday, June 7, 2019 at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens – Good Shepherd Chapel, 9700 Allisonville Road, Fishers, IN with a gathering starting at 2pm until the start of the service.
Memorial Contributions may be made to either the Humane Society of Indianapolis or the American Lung Association.
