Sharon Lee Folger, 69, passed away on November 7, 2018. She is survived by her children, Robyn Lee Folger, Carrie Ann Engle and Robert Eugene Engle III. She is joining some of her most beloved family members that preceded in death: her daughter, Lisa Lynn Folger, her mother, Julia Jean Newhart and her father, Richard Folger.
Sharon was a life-long resident of Indianapolis and never wanted to call anywhere else her home. As her children moved out of Indiana, she devoted much of her time to her beloved animals, of whom Wiley, Lucy, and Mimi mourn her loss with us.
Sharon attended Washington High School and IUPUI. She had careers in administrative work and hospitality. Her most recent employment combined her office skills with her interest in serving others in her position as a hostess at Legacy Funeral Home.
Sharon was an avid bowler in much of her lifetime, leading all four of her children to be among the best in the state in the sport. She loved water, and considered her pool as much as a year-round calming body of water as she did a place to relax floating peacefully in the summer.
Sharon was a member of the White River Yacht Club. She also followed the advice of her grandmother, Rosalie Hagan, and joined the Moose Lodge in her 20’s and faithfully paid her monthly dues for 40 years before she ever went to a Lodge (and later worked there).
Sharon had a passion for “soaps” during the day, “crime” shows, the news and weather in the evening. She watched practically every awards ceremony aired and mastered recording shows for later viewing despite being technologically challenged by her own admission. She reluctantly got a flip phone when she was given a $100 gift certificate by AT&T to buy a new phone because she had the last analog phone on their network in Indiana.
Sharon had a special place in her heart for her friend, John Tetrick and friend, Diana Bryson of Tilly’s Pub & Sports Grill, her White River Yacht Club trivia team, and her classmates from Washington High School, many of whom she called almost daily and met monthly for lunch. Finally, she remained a close friend of Robert Engle Jr. during the entire time after their divorce 20 years ago.
Sharon was steadfast in leading the life she chose. She will be loved always and remembered for her wit, her compassion and her integrity in a life that could be an example for many.
Visitation will be from 2 pm to 5 pm on Sunday, November 11, 2018 at Legacy Cremation & Funeral Services, 5215 N. Shadeland Avenue, Indianapolis, IN. Funeral services will be at 11 am on Monday, November 12, 2018 at the funeral home. Burial to follow at Hopewell Cemetery, Frankfort, IN.
