Shirley Ann Shirels, 73, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 8th 2020. She was born in Indianapolis, IN on December 25, 1946 to the late Russell Moore and Bonnie (Bowman) Wheeler. Shirley was a great wife, mother, and grandmother. Not a day went by that she couldn’t put a smile on anyone’s face. She was known for her love of Elvis Presley so much, that she took her last breath on his birthday. She was lovingly known by her family as “Crazy Granny.”
Shirley is preceded in death by her grandmother Dolly E. Bowman; her parents mentioned above; along with her loving husband of 50 years, Harmus R. Shirels Jr; and 5 siblings.
Shirley is survived by her 4 children, Sandy Sparrow (Paul), Shirley “Sissy” Shirels, Harmus R. “Little Ray” Shirels lll, and Shelby Bradburn (Michael); her 8 grandchildren, Michael, Ashley, Sandy, Jesse, Sarah, Chelsea, Ricky, and Macy; 8 great-grandchildren, Dominic, Liliana, Clayton, Aden, Austin, Rayleigh, Raegan, and Elijah; along with her 5 siblings, Debbie Gray, Brenda Smith, Dolly Wheatcraft, Mary Gray, and Gary Wheeler.
Visitation will be from 4pm to 8pm on Monday, January 20, 2020 at Legacy Cremation & Funeral Services, 5215 N. Shadeland Avenue. Funeral Services will be at 12pm on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at the funeral home. Burial to follow at Washington Park East Cemetery, Indianapolis, IN.
