Tamra Sue Cheatham

Tamra Sue Cheatham (Schaffer) passed away at 11 PM on October 16, 2023. Tammy was at home surrounded by loved ones. Tammy was born October 25, 1958 to Charles and Nancy Schaffer in Oceanside California. Tammy grew up in Terre Haute Indiana. She attended Rankin Elementary, Otter Creek Junior High, and graduated from North Vigo High School class of 1976. Tammy completed her schooling at Ivy Tech community college where she received her associate degree in accounting.

Tammy had many talents. At Otter Creek, she was a member of the Golden Girls Cheer Squad. In high school Tammy used to sew her own clothes. An avid skater, she spent a lot of time at the skating rink. She also enjoyed reading books. But her standout talent was working with numbers. Tammy did the accounting for her father’s business flawlessly. Hearing that a local company needed an accountant, Tammy’s mother referred her to the owners of SMC (sheet metal contractor). As a result, Tammy was hired and worked for SMC 23 years. Leaving SMC, she moved on to Garmong construction. She was hired as an accounts payable and payroll specialist, but ended her career as a project accountant.

She was preceded in death by her father Charles Schaffer, and her brother Michael Schaffer. She is survived by husband Jerome, mother Nancy Schaffer and her brother Mark and his wife Kerry Schaffer, and several nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to great niece Alexis Schaffer, who Tammy raised as her own, for her great support at this time; and her daughter Avery.

The family has chosen cremation. A celebration of life ceremony will be taking place on Saturday, October 28, 2023 at 12 PM in Terre Haute Indiana at the Terre Haute Convention Center.
