Terry "Ted" Joe Butler

Terry Joe “Ted” Butler, 66, of Moonsville, died Saturday, May 1, 2021, at Community Hospital in Anderson after an extended battle with cancer.

He graduated in 1972 from Anderson High School. He liked to stay busy, but he also enjoyed fishing and drinking sweet tea (but “not too sweet”). His passion was working with his hands and he worked in the construction industry his entire career. Many projects he oversaw were on the military bases in the Norfolk, Virginia area. He also enjoyed doing custom remodeling jobs for people he met along the way. He performed large (additions/remodels) and small (kitchen, bath, cabinetry) jobs with the same dedication. He believed in providing “good work”, plain and simple.

Terry preferred to be called “Ted”, in honor of an admired cousin who survived a serious automobile accident and continued courageously, despite his physical limitations. He loved 60’s rock, the Blues, and The Beatles. He especially liked music by Eric Clapton and Paul McCartney.

He had several companion dogs during his life; most notably, a large German Shepherd named “Bear” and a Golden Lab named “King” who were loyal and faithful companions for more than 14 years. He regarded King as his best friend and it is believed King’s presence helped Ted through some difficult times.

Lastly, Ted put his faith and trust in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ for our atonement with God the Father and accepted him as his Saviour. This alone provides peace to his loved ones like no other comfort.

The family would like to thank Ted’s good friend David Chase, whose friendship to Ted was of great value, and whose support is greatly appreciated. Words alone cannot express enough our gratitude. Also, much thanks to the staff at Edgewater Woods and Dr. Reddy and Dr. Bose of Community Hospital for their support and guidance during Ted’s treatment.

He is survived by the former Carla Butler (of Kanab, UT), son, Joshua Clark (Leigh) Butler of Charlotte, NC, and granddaughter Brie Butler. Also surviving are his ex-wife, Susan Butler and daughter, Kristen Ciara Butler of Hampton, VA. Surviving siblings are Stephen (Joy), Tom (Jane), Therese (Charles) Williamson, Ann (Charles) Girt, Christopher (Mary), and Patrick (Kelly).

Ted was preceded in death by his parents, Marilyn “Boots” Butler (O’Brien) and Jimmie Butler of Anderson.

Cremation and a private graveside service will be held at a later date at Forrestville Cemetery located near Summitville, Indiana. Ted would appreciate that any memorial contributions be made to the Saint Jude Organization (www.stjude.org).
