Thurman “Sonny” Blaylock, Jr., 66, passed away on November28, 2016 at St. Francis Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born to Thurman and Dot Blaylock at home in Anderson on January 1, 1950.
Sonny started learning plastering at a young age from his father and became a Master Plasterer. He loved Chevy 4-wheel drive trucks, country music, taking long drives, and sitting around his fire pit while cooking his ribeye and fried taters and onions. Some of his happiest memories are camping,playing 6/5/4, and Sunday breakfasts with his Dad. He loved to joke with everyone and precisely cut wood for his fire pit. Sunny especially loved to tease and spoil Cathy, his loving wife of not quite 25 years, but they had been together for 30 wonderful years.
Sonny is survived by his: wife, Cathy Blaylock; daughter,Ginger Smith and her children, Tyler and Justin; daughter, Angela Blaylock and her children, Ashley and Haley, and her grandchildren, Julen, Morgan, and Laurel; daughter, Amber Rule, and her children, Kyle and Nora; grandson, Torren Beitler; stepson, Jason (Melissa) Bickel; father, Thurman Blaylock Sr.;siblings, Beverly, Barbara, Trish, Susie, Sherry, Genie, Gary, and Jeff; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family and special friends.
He is preceded in death by his: stepson, Larry David Bickel; sister, Kay Lambert; mother, Dot Blaylock; and mother and father in law, Sibyl Short and Jim Short.
Services are 1pm on Friday, December 9, 2016 at Legacy Cremation & Funeral Services, 504 W. 9th Street, with visitation at 12pm until the time of service. Burial to follow at Maplewood Cemetery. Sonny hated flowers, so instead of flowers, please make contributions to the American Cancer Society.
