Vernon Brummet

Vernon Brummet, age 85, of Elwood, Indiana, passed away at Essential Senior Health and Living in Elwood, on March 10, 2020. He was born on July 4, 1934 to the late Ora and Mildred Brummet.

Vernon was a hard-working man. He retired from General Motors as a manufacturer of machines after 30+ years. He would always tinker and fix things any chance he could. “Grandpa could always fix it” was the family motto. His grandchildren were the apple of his eye. He and his wife loved to travel whenever they could. As a hobby, Vernon loved wood-working and watching YouTube. He loved to laugh and tease and had a wonderful personality. Vernon was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Vernon is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Jo Ann Brummet; children Brenda Jones (Jerry), Melinda Nash (Philip), Loraine Huffman (Randy), and Tony Brummet (Donna); grandchildren Katreen Shirey, Eric Sullivan, Bridget Chrabascz, Hilary Uhl, Chris Huffman, Doug Huffman, and Kayla Brummet; great-grandchildren Wyatt Faulstich, Taylor Faulstich, Shelby Sullivan, Curtis Sullivan, Bailey Chrabascz, Harper Chrabascz, Isabella Uhl, Nicholas Uhl, Alissa Huffman, Tyler Huffman, and Ashley Huffman; 3 great-great-grandchildren; siblings Jerry Brummet (Lavenda), Lois McCormick (Paul), Shirley Chriss (Jack); and many special friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents listed above; siblings Herbert Brummet, Catherine Dickerson, Vera Lloyd, Charlie Brummet, and Jean Morehead.

The family would like to thank the Staff at Elwood Assisted Living, along with the Staff at Heart to Heart Hospice.

There will be a memorial gathering from 1pm to 3pm on Saturday, March 21, 2020 at Alexandria First Baptist Church, 2107 S. Park Avenue, Alexandria, IN 46001, with a service to start at 3pm. Cremation Services provided by Legacy Cremation and Funeral Services – Anderson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s research.

Inurement will follow at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.
