William David

March 21, 1970 — July 16, 2024

William (Bill) Thomas David, 54, of Fishers, IN passed away at home on July 16, 2024, from cancer related liver failure after a courageous battle with Stage IV metastatic small cell carcinoma. His last days were spent surrounded by family, friends, and loved ones who already miss him so very much.

Bill was born on March 21, 1970, in Albuquerque, NM to David Ford David and Barbara Mercedes (nee Murray). The second of two sons, Bill spent his adolescence like a proper John Hughes movie – adventuring around the mesas on bikes and the corn marauder with friends, playing Dungeons and Dragons, listening to hair metal and glam rock bands on full volume, swimming competitively for the Tanoan Country Club team, serving as an acolyte at St. Aidan’s Episcopal Church, and getting into all sorts of trouble. Bill discovered his true love for tackle football in his early high school years and played offensive and defensive tackle for the Varsity Team at both Sandia High School and La Cueva High School where he was a member of the first graduating class. Bill earned all-city, all-district, and all-state accolades in football, and was a North South All Star his senior year. He later played at New Mexico State University, where he was a proud member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity.

After transferring to the University of New Mexico, Bill met Kristine Schliesing of Eagan, MN and the two began a love story for the ages. They were married on March 11, 1994 – the 50th wedding anniversary of Bill’s paternal grandparents – and spent 30 years completely devoted to one another. They had two children, Lauren (b. 1998) and Leah (b. 2001), with which Bill was absolutely enamored.

In 2004, Bill and Kristine moved their family to Fishers, IN and Bill immediately dedicated himself to serving their chosen community. He served on the Hamilton Southeastern Schools’ redistricting committee and was a precinct committeeman during elections - proudly running the polling station at New Hope Presbyterian Church. Additionally, Bill was the first president of the Oak Hall Homeowners’ Association, a position he happily passed on when his term was up, and cultivated one of the happiest, most connected, and, at times, raucous, neighborhoods with his hit Cinco De Mayo parties. It was here that Bill found some of his best friends who christened themselves the ‘Bubbas' after his propensity to call anyone and everyone by that moniker.

In 2007, after a promise to his girls to change team alliances if the Colts won the Superbowl, Bill became the most dedicated fan of the Indianapolis Colts; a season ticket holder who truly put his heart and soul into every game - win or loss.

Outside of his personal life, Bill worked for PNC Bank, achieving many professional awards including the Gallup Great Workplace Award for Excellence in Managing, and was always proud of the teams he developed and cultures he created. He ended his career at Citizens State Bank, where he was the most positive, enthusiastic banker in Citizens State Bank’s 151-year history. He lit up every meeting he walked into and was always willing to lend an ear to anyone needing to talk something out. He self-proclaimed himself as the “carney-in-chief” and promoted anything he was involved in as the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Bill documented his journey with cancer via the Caring Bridge site. He was honest, forthcoming and always humorous as he described his journey with candor and courage. He felt very blessed to be at MD Anderson, and showed his gratitude and appreciation for their efforts the way any proper fat-guy would - by bringing donuts to the teams before treatments.

Of all the nicknames and titles which Bill carried over the years, undoubtedly his favorites were “Dr. Kristine David’s husband” and “Lauren and Leah’s dad.” Family was everything to Bill, and he prioritized them above all else. To his dying day, Bill never ceased to let his girls know how much he loved them or how proud he was of them.

If there was anyone who knew how to love those around him and love them well, it was Bill. He was the brightest spot in any room, the loudest laugh, the fiercest hug, and an example of the True Gentleman to his core. Bill is survived by his loving wife, Kristine; two daughters, Lauren (Evan) Parker and Leah David (Ryan Caruthers); his parents, David and Barbara David; his brother John (Melissa) David; his nephews, Jack, Tim, and Stephen David; his mother and father-in law, Karen and Clay Nakamitsu; his sister in-law Deanna Pridgen; his brother in-law Jon Schliesing; his nieces, Mariah Dobbins, Hallie Wimbish, and Sydney Pridgen, and countless friends, coworkers, and loved ones.
